History of the Ohio School Plan
In 2002, in response to a major insurance carrier abandoning the school insurance market, veteran school officials collaborated with educational associations and experts from within the insurance industry to form the not-for-profit Ohio School Plan. In a period of 30 days, the Ohio School Plan offered insurance coverage to all school districts that had coverage terminated effective February 1, 2002.
We know schools. The board of the Ohio School Plan is made up exclusively of public educational institutions and boards of developmental disabilities, as are our members. In addition to traditional coverage, we have been able to meet member insurance needs by developing highly specialized coverages. During the past 9 years, we have developed the following services and coverages to address the exposures and insurance needs facing our members:
Coverages
- Property
- Violence
- Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist
- Increased Sexual Abuse Liability Limits
- Increased Educational Legal Liability Limits
- Declaratory, Equitable and Injunctive Relief Defense
- Law Enforcement Liability
- Fiduciary Liability
- Increased Violence Limits
- Replacement Cost on Buses
Services (at no additional charge)
- Risk Management On-Site Visits

- Exclusive Agency Force
Nearly 10 years later, with approximately 300 members and $2,000,000 in equity, we are able to provide consistent pricing through alternating market cycles while maintaining excellent service. Concentrating on long term member benefits versus short term profits allows the Ohio School Plan to align our interests with our members' interests. |
