Environmental Health & Safe Inspection Program

On July 17, 2009, Governor Ted Strickland signed House Bill (HB) 1, which included comprehensive school funding reform.  HB 1 also "repeals the current law establishing the School Health and Safety Network (Jarod's Law) and the enforcement structure associated with it."  At this time no one is quite sure what this means and what changes will transpire as a result of this law being repealed.  HB 1 does not become official until Oct 17, 2009.  As the Ohio School Plan learns and understands more on this issue we will keep our members informed.  Until then, you may go to the following website for more information on this issue.

The Ohio School Inspection Program is now in full stride!  This program is directed by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) as required in Ohio House Bill 203 (otherwise referred to as Jarod's Law).  ODH will be providing continuous guidance, updates, directives, training and resource material supporting the application of the School Environmental Health and Safety Inspections that will be conducted by the Local Departments of Health (LDH) throughout Ohio. Refer to the Ohio Department of Health website at www.odh.ohio.gov for the latest and most current information, directives, training and resource material that is available from ODH.

The Ohio School Plan will continue to work in conjunction with OSBA, BASA and OASBA to assist you in the hands-on implementation of the requirements of H.B. 203.  Throughout 2008 the OSP conducted regional seminars across the State to provide materials and assistance to meet the requirements of HB203.  The OSP will continue to provide additional support in the coming year.  In the meantime, if you have immediate questions or need specific assistance, please feel free to contact us.
